5 Things to Look for When Choosing an Egg Donation Agency

There are many factors to consider when searching for an Egg Donation Agency and intended parents use different qualifications to decide what is best for them.  Some intended parents choose an egg donation agency based on their location, some use in-house donors from their fertility clinic, others decide based on a recommendation from their doctor, friend, or maybe a forum/blog, and many do their own research to find an agency that meets their personal needs for building their family through egg donation.

Consider these  5 factors  when choosing an Egg Donation Agency to partner with:

Does the agency pride itself on offering superior customer service and treat your egg donation cycle not like a job but as one of the most important journeys of your life?

Look to see how personable the agency is.  Is each intended parent assigned one contact who you know you can count on to return your emails and phone calls promptly or do you feel like you are shuffled through their entire staff?  Of course, every agency will have ”office hours” but are they willing to meet with or talk with you in the evenings or on the weekends?  Do you feel comfortable knowing that they are 100% committed to you and will put the needs of your cycle as a top priority?

Does the Egg Donation Agency truly care about the well-being of the intended parents and find it important for your cycle to be successful?

Unfortunately, not all egg donation cycles are successful.  Some cycles initially start by choosing an egg donor who does not pass day-3 or STD screening or after a few weeks decides that being an egg donor is not right for her.  Rarely but at times an egg donor does not respond well to medications and the cycle will be canceled.   We encourage you to find an agency that understands how important it is to you that your egg donation cycle is successful and will work with you to find another egg donor at no additional charge no matter what stage of the egg donation cycle you are in.  Find an egg donation agency primarily focused on helping you have a baby not just assisting you through ONE egg donation cycle.

Do they educate their donors BEFORE being matched with an intended parent(s) on the commitment level needed, the egg donation process, and the possible complications associated with being an egg donor?

Visit the egg donation agency’s entire site.  Evaluate how much they have (or have not) shared initially with the potential egg donors.  Talk to the agency about their screening process and what are some of the determining factors when approving a woman wanting to become an egg donor.

Do they have a way for you to see potential egg donors for free?

Each agency is different.  However, you want to look for an agency that can help you find the right fit for you and your family.  Some will initially consult with you to discuss your needs and send you appropriate donor candidates. While others will allow you to search a database. It should never cost you money to see egg donor candidates with an agency.  Look to see what their policies are during the initial search process.

Are the agency’s fees listed clearly online?

It is important that all fees are listed up front.  This will ensure that you are prepared for the costs associated with that specific Egg Donation Agency and there will not be any surprises that would hold up your cycle.  Look for an agency that does not nickel and dime their intended parents with fees for consultations, phone calls with donors, rematching fees, etc.
