After unsuccessfully getting pregnant naturally, my wife and I had three unsuccessful IUIs. It didn’t work out and we are both in our 40’s and felt like time was running out. We planned and then executed the search for an egg donor. We deliberated for many days attempting to find the best match. Our goal was to find a woman that matched our features and had a healthy family history. Just coming off of a pandemic shut down, this was no easy task. Donor rates were very low, but after much searching we found a good willing match.
As our egg donor contract was being drafted and being prepared. I was traveling for work and walking into a meeting when my wife called to say she was PREGNANT! We were both surprised and excited. To give you a better understanding of why this is a miracle. Our physician gave us a 2% chance of becoming pregnant naturally.
My wife and I celebrated and were just elated while going through a great deal of personal transitions. We had sold our house, while waiting for our new home construction to be completed we were living in a hotel. So, this was a surprise and a blessing. We did move forward with signing our Egg Donor & Surrogate Solutions contract given the chances of miscarriage but also because we want two children and hitting the jackpot twice was pretty slim.
We went to our first doctor’s appointment for the baby. It wasn’t bad, everything seemed to look up. However, the next appointment…..and then the next, the baby was not thriving. Ultimately it resulted in a miscarriage. We were both distressed and I held onto resentment for a while, not towards my wife, but anger did play a role. A few months later we transferred a healthy embryo. We were terrified for the first 3-4 months of the pregnancy that we would miscarry again. Every 6 weeks we went to doctors’ appointments to check on the baby. For months, I couldn’t believe it. Everything was going great and the baby was growing rapidly and healthy!
On December 20th, 2023. My wife and I were blessed with a baby girl. Nothing about this process felt real until I laid my eyes on our little girl. She was 8 lbs 9 oz and 21.5 inches long, very healthy and alert. The most beautiful thing my eyes have ever seen and my hands have ever held.
